The Philadelphia Phillies have signed infielder Brandon Lewis, a former Los Angeles Dodgers prospect who never reached the majors with his hometown team. The 27-year-old earned the opportunity after a scorching hot month playing for the York Revolution in the Atlantic League.
Lewis, a Southern California native, was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He spent five seasons climbing through their farm system, reaching Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2023. But after hitting just .196 with 13 home runs across 80 games at the highest minor league level, the Dodgers released him last November.
Rather than fade away, Lewis joined York and put together a monster stretch at the plate. Over 27 games in May, he batted .324 with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs. His slugging percentage soared over .700, drawing attention from scouts still tracking independent league talent.
The Phillies signed him to a minor league contract and assigned him to Double-A Reading. Lewis brings power from the right side and can play third base, first base, and the outfield corners. For a player who grew up rooting for the Dodgers, getting a fresh start with a division rival might feel strange. But at 27, he knows this could be his last real shot at reaching the big leagues.
