5 candidates for Chicago Bears' offensive coordinator job
January 31, 2026 - 05:26
The Chicago Bears are immediately in the market for a new offensive coordinator after head coach Ben Johnson saw his top offensive assistant depart on Friday. This vacancy presents a critical decision for the franchise as they look to build around a young quarterback and refine their offensive identity.
Several intriguing candidates are likely under consideration. Internally, the Bears may look at their current passing game coordinator or quarterbacks coach to maintain continuity. Externally, the search could cast a wide net, targeting experienced play-callers who have recently become available from other NFL staffs, as well as rising coaches from the collegiate ranks known for innovative schemes.
The selection will be pivotal. Johnson’s offensive philosophy will shape the hire, with a focus on finding a collaborator who can develop talent and install a dynamic, modern attack. The coordinator’s ability to adapt and maximize the personnel on hand will be a key factor in the Bears' offensive improvement next season. The coming days are expected to bring clarity as the team begins formal interviews.
