Romelu Lukaku has been selected for Belgium's World Cup squad for the fourth consecutive time, earning a spot despite a season plagued by injuries at Napoli. The 31-year-old striker joins veteran teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois as Belgium prepares to compete in Group G.
Lukaku's inclusion comes as something of a surprise given his limited playing time this season. He has struggled with muscle problems and has only made a handful of appearances for the Italian side. However, Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco has repeatedly emphasized Lukaku's importance to the national team, calling him a "leader" and a "difference-maker" when fit.
The Red Devils will face Canada, Morocco, and Croatia in the group stage. Belgium reached the semifinals in 2018 and is looking to build on that performance, though many of its star players are now past their peak years. De Bruyne, now 33, and Courtois, 32, remain key figures, but the squad has undergone some changes since the last tournament.
Lukaku is Belgium's all-time leading scorer with 83 goals in 119 appearances. His physical presence and finishing ability make him a crucial option, even if he is not at full match sharpness. Tedesco has said the team will manage Lukaku's minutes carefully during the group stage, hoping he can be ready for the knockout rounds.
Belgium opens its campaign against Canada on November 23.
