Report: Cardinals interviewed Seahawks' Karl Scott for open DC job

The Arizona Cardinals have reportedly expanded their search for a new defensive coordinator, interviewing Seattle Seahawks defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator Karl Scott for the vacancy. The position opened after the team parted ways with Vance Joseph following the conclusion of the regular season.

Scott, who just completed his third season with the Seahawks, is credited with playing a key role in developing Seattle's secondary. Under his guidance, rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon emerged as a standout performer and a leading candidate for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. Scott's work in shaping the team's defensive passing schemes has garnered respect across the league.

His coaching background also includes a stint as the defensive backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings and extensive experience at the collegiate level, primarily in the SEC. The Cardinals are seeking a leader to revitalize a defense that struggled throughout the 2023 season. Scott represents a candidate from the Pete Carroll coaching tree, known for an aggressive defensive philosophy. The interview indicates Arizona is casting a wide net as they aim to build a staff under head coach Jonathan Gannon that can improve the team's competitive footing in the NFC West.
