Ravens pivot to Hendrickson after nixing Crosby trade; The Players Championship gets underway

Ravens pivot to Hendrickson after nixing Crosby trade; The Players Championship gets underway

The Baltimore Ravens have abruptly changed course in their search for a premier edge rusher. After extensive trade discussions with the Las Vegas Raiders for star defensive end Maxx Crosby ultimately fell through, the team has now turned its attention to Cincinnati Bengals standout Trey Hendrickson.

League sources indicate the Ravens are exploring the viability of a deal for Hendrickson, who is entering the final year of his current contract. The 29-year-old has been a consistent force, recording at least 8.0 sacks in each of his three seasons with Cincinnati, including a career-high 17.5 in 2021. Securing Hendrickson would provide an immediate and formidable boost to Baltimore's defensive front, addressing a critical offseason need.

However, any transaction faces significant hurdles. The Bengals, a division rival, may be highly reluctant to facilitate a move that strengthens a direct competitor within the AFC North. Furthermore, the financial implications of acquiring Hendrickson's contract and negotiating a potential extension would require careful salary cap management from the Ravens' front office. This pivot marks a new chapter in Baltimore's aggressive pursuit to revitalize its pass rush ahead of the coming season.
