The Carolina Panthers entered Sunday's game searching for answers after a disastrous outing against the Chicago Bears, who hung 59 points on them just a week earlier. The defensive unit looked lost, unable to generate pressure or cover anyone in what became one of the worst performances in franchise history.
Then came the Atlanta Falcons, and with them, a quarterback situation in complete disarray. Cooper Rush, thrust into action under center, never found a rhythm. The Panthers defense took full advantage, swarming the pocket, jumping routes, and turning Atlanta's offensive chaos into points of their own.
It was exactly the remedy Carolina needed. After being embarrassed on national television, the defense played with visible urgency and confidence. Rush's struggles were real, but the Panthers deserve credit for capitalizing on every mistake. Sometimes a struggling unit just needs the right opponent to get back on track.
The performance does not erase the concerns from the Bears game, but it gives the coaching staff something to build on. Carolina now heads into the next stretch with renewed belief that its defense can compete when the matchup allows it.
