Mets Morning Update: Remembering Guy Conti

October 14, 2026 - 10:53

The New York Mets community is mourning the loss of Guy Conti, a longtime coach and minor league instructor who spent years shaping pitchers within the organization. Conti passed away this week, leaving behind a legacy built on patience, knowledge, and a genuine care for the players he worked with.

Conti joined the Mets in the late 1990s and became a familiar figure around the team's spring training complex in Port St. Lucie. He worked closely with young arms, helping them adjust to professional baseball and refine their mechanics. Many pitchers who reached the majors credited Conti for guiding them through the early stages of their careers.

He also served on the big league staff, including a stint as bullpen coach. Players remembered him as someone who rarely sought attention but always offered honest feedback. His approach was simple: teach the fundamentals, build trust, and let results follow.

Around the league, tributes came in from former Mets pitchers who described Conti as a mentor and a friend. The team observed a moment of silence before its latest game.

New York continues its road trip this week, with the rotation set for the next series. The bullpen has shown signs of improvement, though consistency remains a work in progress.
