Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke dies at 29: No. 21 pick in 2019 NBA Draft spent seven seasons with Memphis

Brandon Clarke, a forward for the Memphis Grizzlies and the 21st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has died at the age of 29. The news was confirmed by his agency on Tuesday, which released a statement mourning the loss of the seven-year NBA veteran.

"He was so unique in the joy he brought to all of those in his life," the statement read. "Brandon had a rare ability to lift everyone around him, and his presence will be deeply missed by his family, teammates, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him."

Clarke spent his entire professional career with the Grizzlies after being selected out of Gonzaga University. Known for his high-energy play, defensive versatility, and relentless hustle, he quickly became a fan favorite in Memphis. Over his seven seasons, he averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game, carving out a role as a key contributor off the bench. His best season came in 2022-2023 when he posted career highs in scoring and rebounding while shooting over 60 percent from the field.

The cause of death has not been disclosed. The Grizzlies organization released a brief statement expressing their devastation, calling Clarke "a beloved teammate and an even better person." The NBA community has begun to share tributes, remembering Clarke not only for his on-court contributions but for his infectious smile and positive attitude in the locker room. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and genuine kindness that extended far beyond basketball.
