Celtics Make Their Intentions Clear in Preseason Opener

Celtics Make Their Intentions Clear in Preseason Opener

If there were any doubts about how the Celtics were going to play in 2026-27, you can erase them now.

The preseason opener offered the first real look at Boston's revamped approach, and the message came through loud and clear. This team plans to push the pace, move the ball, and lean on its depth rather than asking one or two players to carry the load every night.

The ball rarely stuck. Extra passes found open shooters. Defenders rotated with purpose, and the bench brought energy instead of just holding serve. Those are the kinds of habits that coaches want to see in October, long before the games start counting.

It is far too early to draw sweeping conclusions from a single exhibition. Rotations will change, minutes will shift, and the roster may still see movement before the regular season begins. Still, the identity taking shape is hard to miss.

Boston looks faster and more unselfish than it did a year ago. If that style holds up against stronger competition, the Celtics could be a far more difficult team to game plan for than many expected. The preseason is just the start, but the direction is already obvious.
