Bay Area Host Committee Celebrates Opening of Sports for All Hub at  LIFE Academy and United for Success Academy in Oakland

Bay Area Host Committee Celebrates Opening of Sports for All Hub at  LIFE Academy and United for Success Academy in Oakland

A fully renovated athletic field in Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood is now open, marking the latest project from the Bay Area Host Committee aimed at expanding access to sports. The new Sports for All Hub is located at LIFE Academy and United for Success Academy, two schools that share a campus in the area.

The Bay Area Host Committee celebrated the opening on June 9, 2026, calling the field a transformative investment for the community. The project is part of a broader push to bring equitable sports opportunities to neighborhoods across the Bay Area, especially those that have lacked proper facilities.

The new field replaces an outdated and worn surface with a modern, all-weather turf that can support soccer, football, and other team sports. Students from both schools will have priority access during school hours, but the field is also open to local youth leagues and community groups in the evenings and on weekends.

Organizers said the hub is designed to serve as a central gathering space for the Fruitvale neighborhood, where many families have limited access to safe, well-maintained recreational areas. The project was funded through a combination of public and private contributions, though specific dollar amounts were not released.

The Bay Area Host Committee has been working on similar projects across the region, with a focus on underserved communities. This opening is the latest in a series of hubs that the committee plans to complete before major sporting events come to the area in the coming years.
