Arizona Cardinals UDFA profile: S Wydett Williams Jr.

Arizona Cardinals UDFA profile: S Wydett Williams Jr.

The Arizona Cardinals added seven undrafted free agents following the 2024 NFL Draft, and among them is safety Wydett Williams Jr. The former Texas Tech and Tyler Junior College standout brings a blend of size and physicality to the defensive backfield. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing over 200 pounds, Williams projects as a strong safety with the ability to step into the box and support the run game.

During his final collegiate season at Texas Tech, Williams appeared in 12 games and recorded 49 total tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss, along with three pass breakups. His journey to the NFL included a stop at Tyler Junior College, where he earned All-Conference honors before transferring to the Division I level. While he may not have the elite top-end speed of some draft picks, he compensates with good instincts and a willingness to hit.

For the Cardinals, Williams will compete for a roster spot in a crowded safety room. His best path to making the team likely lies on special teams, where his tackling ability could earn him a role. If he can show consistent coverage skills during training camp and the preseason, he has a chance to stick as a developmental depth piece. The Cardinals have a history of finding contributors among undrafted rookies, and Williams will look to continue that tradition.
