March 29, 2025 - 23:04
Dave Maher's remarkable journey in Arlington youth sports commenced by chance in 1978. Over nearly five decades, he has dedicated himself to nurturing young athletes and fostering a sense of community through sports. His commitment has not only shaped the lives of countless children but has also left a lasting impact on the Arlington sports landscape.
As Maher prepares to step back from his direct involvement, he reflects on the many memories and achievements that have defined his tenure. Recently, he celebrated a final triumph as the head coach of the boys Arlington Travel Basketball (ATB) Commandos travel team, leading them to victory in a recent Fairfax tournament.
This victory serves as a fitting capstone to Maher's extensive career, highlighting his passion for coaching and mentoring young players. While he may be reducing his hands-on role, Maher's influence will undoubtedly continue to resonate within the community he has devoted so much of his life to. His legacy will inspire future generations of athletes and volunteers alike.
